The Reason the DNC Has Concealed its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: An Analysis.

The decision by the Democratic National Committee to block the release of its own autopsy report concerning the 2024 election seems remarkable but entirely predictable. Resistant to frank assessments, the Democrats' governing body behaves closer to a PR firm rather than an electoral entity committed to building a volunteer base capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Culture of Conformity

Unwilling to break with the prevailing attitude of conformity, the committee has continued within the Biden-Harris shadow throughout this past year. Publishing the findings would have indicated that party leaders actually want to foster open debate about the missteps which allowed Donald Trump to win re-election. Yet, the committee is acting under the pretense that there is little to understand following the electoral catastrophe from the last cycle.

The top priority: does this help us win? Should the answer be negative, it is an unnecessary diversion from our fundamental goal," a justification which was presented for withholding the analysis.

Critical Problems an Analysis Could Have Addressed

Any valuable post-mortem worth its salt would not dodge a series of difficult topics. These include:

  • Electoral Disenchantment: Losing of a significant portion of the electorate that backed the party's candidate in 2020 was decisive during the tight 2024 election.
  • The Choice to Seek Re-election: The unwavering decision of a party leader to stay in the race, coupled with a very late exit, is viewed as robbing Democratic voters of open primaries.
  • Abandoning the Working-Class Base: Amid economic anxiety, the campaign allegedly bowing to corporate donors' interests and not managing to address the effects of big business.
  • The Foreign Policy Effect: The refusal to reconsider a stance concerning the situation in Gaza reportedly led to losing significant blocs, particularly among young people, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • Eroding Young Voter Backing: Extensive evidence demonstrates a huge drop-off of support for the party among young voters.

A Record Avoiding Accountability

The decision to withhold fits a recurring tendency of evading hard truths. It echoes an episode in which nearly all Democratic officeholder in Congress acquiesced to a sitting president's decision for seeking another term until a disastrous public debate performance compelled a change.

At the same time, overwhelming numbers of Democratic voters had been repeatedly informing surveyors that they opposed that candidate to seek re-election.

Financial Questions

An honest autopsy would also examine matters regarding where money went, such as what sums were directed to insider consultants and advertising contractors over the course of an electoral effort that managed to spend a staggering sum over a few months.

The Larger Problem

Fundamentally, the suppression regarding the analysis is symptomatic of a deference to the established hierarchy that oversaw a losing electoral effort. The message for ordinary supporters – including countless loyal volunteers – appears to be that they cannot have a right to understand the lessons the insiders claim to have learned based on an analysis compiled from conversations with insiders.

A political entity unable to publicly examine its mistakes is unlikely to break free from the cycle that proved so beneficial to the winning candidate.
