The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a major awards ceremony approaches, you'll find a demand to include of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
