Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then located many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior official stated the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
